Alex Bäcker, Ph.D., Chief Executive Officer

A National Champion of Informatics, Alex represented his country twice at the International Olympiads of Informatics. Alex holds a degree in Biology and Economics from MIT, and a M.S. and Ph.D. in Computation and Neural Systems and Biology from the California Institute of Technology, where he was awarded the Dean’s award for ‘great contributions and outstanding qualities of Leadership and Responsibility’. He has held positions at McKinsey & Co., the Center for Computation, Computers, Information and Mathematics of Sandia National Labs, and Caltech. Alex conceived QLess while standing in line. Prior to starting QLess, which he considers his masterpiece, Alex was also the founder of a pioneer of search engine marketing technology that has boosted the reach of search engine marketing campaigns by up to 580% while simultaneously reducing their cost per action by up to 78%, the invention factory, a semantic people search engine with machine vision which beat Google and every other search engine tested 3 to 1 or more in results relevance in a blind people search comparison, and the first resume- or file-based search engine. Alex was appointed by the President to serve in the California Institute of Technology’s Information Sciences and Technology Board of Advisors. Alex has been an invited speaker at numerous conferences on diverse science and technology topics around the world. In 2011, Alex was honored as the keynote speaker at LA County's Tech Week, an honor that was previously accorded a Nobel Prize winner, the CEO of Cisco, the CEO of Adobe, the Chairman of Deloitte, and an astronaut. In 2010, Alex was honored as one of "40 under 40" for the inaugural 40 Under 40 M&A Advisor Recognition Awards. Alex's research on neural coding and artificial intelligence has been published in the world's leading publications such as Nature and Neural Computation. Alex likes to spend his free time with family, kitesurfing, filmmaking, traveling and playing & coaching soccer.

Tim McCune, Chief Technical Officer

A seasoned developer, with experience ranging from ground-floor start-ups to Fortune 500 companies, a passion for building both technology and organizations, and a Midwest work ethic. Tim is co-founder of QLess, and is the executive in charge of product development and operations. Prior to QLess, Tim spent 5 years as a Principal Engineer at Yahoo!, where he led the development of Yahoo’s Java Platform and Serving Stack, and built infrastructure to support hundreds of developers, working on the world’s largest web site, serving millions of users every day. He is also a start-up veteran, helping many organizations grow rapidly and building both their technology stacks and their development teams. He holds an MS in Software Engineering and a BS in Computer Science from Kansas State University.

John M Brock, Global Leader - Sales

John Brock joined QLess as the Global Leader - Sales. John brings 40+ years of senior leadership, sales management, strategy development and business solution selling in the Human Resource arena and the telecommunications industry. Mr. Brock spent 20 years with DBM, a leading HR consulting firm. Under his leadership, his team produced a record $47M in revenue in 2009. Prior to his career with DBM, John was a senior manager with AT&T where he developed and managed a $67M business in the Philadelphia area. During his successful career with AT&T John was responsible for the development and implementation of the consultative sales training for the 6000 member sales team. In addition, John led the development and national implementation of a certification program for the sales force. Mr. Brock received his education from the University of Southern California and California State University – Fresno.

Michael Soderlund, Director of Sales - QLess DMV Solutions

Michael is a graduate of Kansas State University, where he majored in Political Science/Pre-Law. He is a published author, and Founder of the Constitutional Law Club, which has now spread to several major colleges and universities. After graduation, Michael came to work for QLess, Inc. He now heads all sales operations for QLess DMV Solutions, "one of QLess, Inc.'s fasting growing divisions." Michael lives happily in Hermosa Beach, CA.

Michael Ander, Director - Marketing & Sales Operations

Blending a creative thought process, strategic focus, and nearly 10 years' experience in business operations, Michael joins the QLess team as a systems and business architect with a keen entrepreneurial passion. Previously, Mr. Ander spent 6 years as Director of Operations for Innovest Strategic Value Advisors, a boutique investment ratings firm (now part of MSCI). He managed the production of ratings for over 2500 public-traded companies, by a team of over 60 ESG analysts. From Cornell University, Michael holds a BA in Economics, a BS in Earth Systems Science, an MPA in Environmental Policy, and an MBA in General Management. He lives in New York City, and when time permits, he performs some mean karaoke.

Jason Omenn, Director, Sales North America

Jason has over twenty years of sales and business development experience in both multi-billion dollar enterprises and technology startups. Jason is also an expert at introducing new, cutting edge innovative solutions across many industries. In the 1990s, Jason ran sales & marketing for one of the first green building materials companies, Jason was responsible for all sales and marketing functions while also driving over 50% of the company's revenues. Among his many positions in technology start-ups, Jason worked for a pioneer in Saas-based solutions (Boats.com/Yachtworld.com), with a leadership role on a sales team which grew market share from 20% to 90% in 24 months. More recently, Jason spent seven years designing, negotiating, and managing custom cause marketing programs for Scholastic Inc, the worldwide leader in Children's book publishing. Jason has been recognized for both his sales management, creative and strategic competencies and his ability to bring nascent technologies to market in both niche and mainstream industries.

Dick Rubinstein, Sales

Proven Track record of consultative sales both inside and outside sales for over 25 years. A team player with integrity, consistency, creativity, and always exceeding quotas. Successfully sold to both commercial and governmental entities having lived on both US coasts and in Midwest. Prior experience in large and small companies. 5-10 years each GE, BMC, Artificial Intelligence Corp. And several small startups from 5 – 50 person company size with both W-2 and 1099 status. Have also managed and trained sales staff in company products and sales tools. Married with two daughters. Bachelor degree in Math from University of Wisconsin.
